Christine Adams, MSW, LCSW
I view therapy as a unique, dynamic space between two people where an alliance is being formed. Clients often come my way frustrated by not being heard by health providers or mental health therapists who lack empathy, understanding, or who come off as judgmental. My job is to meet you in a place where you can feel deeply seen, heard, and understood.
I am currently scheduling in-person and virtual clients for November and December 2024. I can also schedule clients residing in South Carolina for virtual appointments.
Clinical Approach and Treatment Areas
My Approach
My work uses the therapeutic relationship as a tool in-and-of itself (Psychodynamic and Attachment based work) as an opportunity to repair relationship ruptures, disconnection, and unhelpful patterns of relating. My clients and I will often wander into the depths of learning more about inner experiences and non-judgmental self-study (Somatic and Mindfulness Based work). Finally, past experiences are cunning in their scope of impact on our current reactions, triggers, and present experiences which we can unpack, reprocess, and tend to (Trauma and EMDR work).

About Me
I graduated UNC-Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Social Work in 2021 and have been practicing psychotherapy since 2019.
I have had a long career of helping others. I spent years working as a preschool teacher and a family nanny, an office manager at an ADHD clinic, an aid at a Dementia memory care facility, and a volunteer services coordinator at several violence prevention (IPV) non-profits. I also have been a dedicated volunteer at several violence prevention non-profits and Planned Parenthood.
I love Durham and I love being a therapist. I hope we can work together!
EMDR
EMDR can help address acute past and recent traumatic events, as well as developmental trauma, which is a more complex and layered set of events in childhood or young adulthood, which may be contributing to recurring emotional distress, negative beliefs about self, low self-esteem, or relationship issues. You can read more about EMDR here.
